H, Hosking, Gcorgo Fannin, J, Williams, and the other ficutlcmen signing the requisition:— GENTLEMEN.—In answer to the veiy large requisition you have presented me with I ftel extremely pleased with the honor you have done me and confidence yon ]\avo displayed in ine, especially a? i| was pi sought for and uncxpectol gn iny part, A? the renuisjtiitty represents'so very large and influential a section of the Burgesses of Masterton I have inuoh pleasure in acceding to it, and if elected I jiromise to da my duty to the bast of my ability without fear or favor, and to work in unisin with the Councillors for the g«od of the wlwlo borough and to conduct the deliberations of the Council with propriety. My personal views are well known to a large number of the rcquitionists, butuow state for tho information of other ratepayers that they arc emi'iuticaiiLY mogressive and at the same time fuse from recklessness. It will ho my aim to assist in fostering such measures as will promote the substantial welfaro and advancement of tho Borough so as to enable it to attiin the position its natural advantages warrants. At the same time I will consider it my duty to counsel the ratepayers against unmatured schemes for reckless borrowing n\id expenditure, and will use my b§st endeavors tp protect the Burgessps from being weighted down with excessive and burdensome rates. In conclusion, I wish to explain iny reasons for not having taken part in local matters ere this, are that although having largo interests in the Horough, I havo not till now had leisure time at my disposal, and partly from not wirhing to push myself forward to tho exclusion of other gentlemen who had prior claims on the suffrages of the Burgesses, I am, Gehtlemen, Your obedient servant, M, CASELBERG.
