MUNICIPAL ELECTION.

♦ BOROUGH OF SUSTERTON. The election of three Councillors for the Borough of Maiterton took place yesterday. Very little excitement was apparent during the day, but towards evening more interest appeared to be taken in the contest, and the Empire 'Bus and one or two buggiea proceeded languidly about the Borough at intervals to bring voters t'i the poll, At six o'clock, when the poll closed, about a hundred burgesses assembled in front of the Town Hall to learn the result of the election, nnd about half-an hour ' later Mr 11, Brown (the Returning Officer) gave the number of roles as under I Price 187; Dixon 155; Gapper 135; Wilton 104; Corbett 51. The first three ' were declared duly elected amidst loud applause. j . Mr Price, who was loudly cheered, then mounted the steps in front of the Hall and thanked (he burgesses for the honor they had conferred upon him by •placing him at the head of the poll in the best contested election than had been held in the Borough for some time He would '.'do his beat tn repay tho conlfdence they ' had shown in him, nnd hoped when he , had served- his term he would be able to . come forward with a clear conscience and ask them to re-elect him.—(Loud cheers.) Mr G. Djxoii, who was received with phpers, said lie thanked them for the honor they had dune him, and would assure them of his best efforts for the good of the Borough.—(Loud applause.) , Mr Gapjier, vvholmd a hearty reception, "next addressed them. He considered the position he occupied on the poll a great honor when it was considered what opposition 'had -been brought to bear against Ijini—why he could not understand. As he had promised before lie would prdniise pow, viz., to do his best for'the whole of the Borough, and would use'his iniluence to have tho money available for public works spread fnirly over it.—(Loutl ap- ' plause.) • Mr Wilton also thanked the burgesses who voted for him, and thcio were loud cries for the'"£so,ooo man." But Mr Cprbptt was not then present, and a vote pf thanks (proposed by Mr Gapper) to the Returning Officer concluded a wellcontested and most orderly election,
