The applications held over from, this district wore first considered, i jgk Royal Oak.—The license of this was transferred from J. J. Harris (Trustee in Giles' estate) to J. Bavratt (late of tho Port Nicholson Club). Marquis of Normanby.—ln granting the transfer of the license for this house , Jom T. Urwin to H. Williams, the < Uiairman remarked upon the frequent changes in the proprietary of the hotel, which lie thought was very unsatisfactory. He trusted that under Mr Williams' management a better Btate of prevail, and from what he had.heard of Ifr Williams'wlien njaijag? Ing the Royal at Feathers ton, he thought this would be the case.
HABTBRTON DISTRICT, Royal Hotel.—The transfer of the license of the Railway Hotel (now the Royal).from H. Loughlin to 0. F. Worth was granted. Mr Worth, in answer to the Bench, stated lie had a seven years' lease of the place, and that it was a free house, lie not being tied to anyone.
UPPER WAIRARAPA. New Hotel.—An application was made by Mr Beard on behalf of Mr Jens Peter Muller Thompson for a license for an hotel to be erected at Mauriceville, and a memorial stating the necessity for suoli an. hotel, 'signed by thjiiy settlers, wag handgd • in,—The Chairman ' stated that #8 this would probably bo the lasttime the Commissipners would sit under the present Agt, and as another measure would soon beoome law, they did not feci disposed to frant any fresh licenses)
unless for houses really urgently required.—Mr Bwrt argued very ably to alter the opinion of the Bench, pointing put thafi the Bill was not yet law, and in Miy case would not come into force for a long period, and consequently if the license were not granted now it would be a great hardship upon the travelling public as well aa the applicant. He also pointed out that among the names on the memorial ure some' who signed themselves 1.0.G.T.'5, which he thought ihowed the real urgency for the house, and the good sonso of the Good Templars who signed the memorial.-Tho Bench retired to- consider the application, and on' returning refused it on the grounds before stated, There'was a written objection by the police, but tho Court did not make it public.' • Tho Chairman stated he regretted to see that the police had found it necessary to report the Prince of Wales Hotel, and requested the police to invite Mr Wagg to attend the Court at 2 o'clock, '. _ Mr Wagg was reported to be in Wellington, and was therefore deprived of the pleasure intended for him:
