MASTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD.

The. usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Sft'urday.. Present : Messrs Bucbannan (chairman), Bennett, Vallance, McQuarrie, Chamberlain, and Meredith. i The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The enainoern report was read:—lt stated that the To whiti bush falling contract (No 2 ward), viz., clearing a 12 font on the' Wastfirtmi Gladstone road, had heen'satisfactorily completed by Messrs.. Pike and Sheervin;. Re Waipoxa river '.overflow at Paitan the engineer said ho had been unable throughly to investigate, the matter but he was disposed to favorably vinw the scheme proposed by the Opaki settlers, Operations nn the Kauminji road deviation had been temporarily s"spendod owing to the weather. Re the fallino bush contract, West Coast road, out nf 8 miles 21- remain to be completed. Mr A. Cockhurn had refused to r'ernovo the stones on the Manaia road until tjje Board compelled Mr W. : : Morrison, to shift hjs fence which en ; roaches 3 feet nn the road reserve, to its proper position. Surveys of roads on Wainuinrn and Bangitumau districts'were •Completed ; also 2J- miles road thronoh the .Blairlogie property, Ca9tlep»int Highway. District, , A portion of road laid off by Mr King through Mr Lnuuhlnn's property had been altered to. give access to properties hitherto shut out, and it was suggested that this new ling he formed for traffic—43 chains at fin estimate of 114. ■That the clerk write to Mr J, Morrison to inform him to fill up the hols and remove the post on the track leading to Alfredton without delay. That the engineer he instructed to attend to the work applied for by Mr Mc Kay; prepare the plans and specification! for the formation metalling of road at Gladstone, and widening the track leading to Wainuioru and sections, and report upon the road leading from the river to Air H.R. Bunny's. That the overseer be instructed to get a culvert repaired on the lineof road leading from the. Upper Plain road to Mr 1 Day's. That the application of Mr E. - S. Ohamherlain, that the road leading past his place to the Wnipsua river be metalled stand over till next meeting. " That the clerk wait on the Editors ..of the Daily , and" Star newspapers, re the printing and advertising of the Board, ,-That the clerk call for tenders for- a lease of the Te Ore Ore toll-gate for one year from the 4th of next month. • That Dr Hnsking be informed that ai Mr Bennett objects to the road applili -for- being-tab en through one of . his paddocks, it would be necessary for the Board to take the same under the Public Works Act, which would be attended with a great deal of expense, and they must thoreforo decline to take any steps in the matter, but would ad rise him to jtako the riiad'offered to him in a different place through hiu property at a nominal yearly rent.

That the Chairman, Messrs Bennett, Meredith, and Vallance be requested to attend a- meeting of the East County Council on Saturday, the 10th current, when the alteration of the boundaries of the Mastorton and Castlepoint Highway Districts will be taken into consideration.
