CARTERTON RABBIT DISTRICT.
The Trustees met at the Carterton Insti- ''< fute on Monday last. All being present. The minutes wore read and confirmed, and the credit balanie reported at £Bl 4s 9d. Two accounts were passed for payment. The secretary was instructed to obtain rate notico books, and the Inspector laid his usual report upon the table 'which was as follows:—Aug. 3rd. I visited Mr Dakin's middle run, and found the rabbits still numerous, and the efficient steps not taken, as he had but one man hunting continually. From there I went over the property of Mr John Nicholas, who is about to lay poison, and has two continually hunting with dogs, and they get about 30 rabbits per day. I next visited Mr J. Reyneld'i property, whose sons are continually hunting with dogs and haa laid poison which was very effectual, Aug. 4th, I visited Carter's Hill now occupied by Mr Horn, who is laying poison, which is very effictual, and hunting with dooa. Aug, Bth. I visited .part of Mr Booth'B property, and found but few rabbits just there, but in other parti of his property near Mr Boy's, rabbits are atill numerous. I next proceeded to several small properties adjoining and found but few,' Aug, 6th. I visited the ;■ roperty of Mr E. Brown who promised o lay poison, and didso last week, From there I proceeded to the properties of Coe and Swan, but did not see them, Auk. 10th. I visited the properties of Messrs Kempton, Lee Bros., Dakin'i, and Perry's and found rabbits numerous on the whole of these properties, excepting Mr Kempton's who is trying his best to keep the rabbits in fheck. Messrs Lee Bros., and Wvett are laying poison. Aug. 11th, I visited the properties of Mr Coe and Swari, and H. Edwards, and found rabbits numerous. I served Cue and Swan with a notioo for the destruction' of rabbits. I also visited the properties of Mr Tanered and Mr Francis and found no rabbits there. Aug, 12th. I visited the properties of Messrß Brown, Dal?etty, Olliver, and Skey, and found rabbits numerous nn the properties of Messrs Skey, and Dalgetty, to whom I Berved notice. Olliver is laying poison, Aug, 22nd. I visited the properties of Messrs Lee Bros., and found rabbits very numerous, they were mixing poison. I served y~- f a notice on Messrs Wyett and Lee. ./v \ From thence I went over Mr property, and saw but few rabbits, and poision is being laid. From there I proceeded through by Mr Donald's mill, and up to Mr J.Ridgway's, and saw but few rabbits on Hither of these properties. I also visited Mr Watt'B property, there are still a good few rabbits there, but they are laying poison, and hunting with dogs, and appear to be. using every effort to keep down the pest.
