Mr James Ronald, having been voted to the ohair, called upon-MrPharazyn-,-as one of the Provisional Direotorj pf the■ Company, toaddreas.the,meeting. :. •-,
.' Ms Pharazyn then .explained.in. detail the objects of the proposed Company, and the advantages it would confer on the
district by supplying a -market.'lor looal produce. ; : .;.nV Y / The .Chairman, as a practical farmer, gave ihis opinion on butter-making for export. Tinned butter,' he said, fetched 2d per;lb more than kegged butter :,ih the English market. He was getting suitable tins made in Wellington which would only add Id per lb to the price'of the butter. He was also of the opinion that farmers could themselves fasten the tin lids on with cement, "
Mr Murray Jackson next spoke, advocating a general movement in the direction of taking up shares...",. On the motion of Mr Oox, a sub-com-mittee was formed in Featherston for the purpose of canvassing for shares prior to the 31st inst.
Mr Spearink, in supporting the resolution, said that great credit was due to Mr Phanusyn for the assistance'he had rendered to the movement,
Mr Cundy pointed out the disadvantage which small farmers had labored under in the-past in having no market for their produce. Ho welcomed the present company, and Imped a vessel would be laid on in December or January, as he thought that would be the right time to ship butter. On the motion of Mr Pardon, Messrs A, Anderson, J. G. Cox, Cundy, Pardon, Shaw, W. 0. Williams, M. Jackson, H. Jackson, Oobhum, and Donald were appointed as the canvassing committee. After a vote of thanks to Mr Pharazyn and .the Chairman, the meeting adjourned. ~ The committee then met, and appointed Mr J. G„ Cox its chairman. It was 'arranged that Mr.Cundy should canvass Kaiwaiwai, Mr Pardon—Featherston, Mr Sliaw—Tauherenikau, Mr M. JacksonWestern Lake, and Mr H. JacksonSouth Featherston. • ' ' :
