THE MAYOR OF MASTERTON.

[To the Editor of the Daily, [ Sir,—l find in tbo Counties Act of 1870 the following sub-soction. clause. ca \-. —s " Any pei'son holding any office op place of profit under or in. the gift of the Council, or being oonneoted or pai'tioi. patmg in any partnership in any oon* tract with or work to be done for the Council," I find, also, that this sub-olause is repeated in the Municipal Corporation Aot of the same year, Mr D, McGregor, as an honorable man, at once resigned his seat in the County Council as soon as he found out that he had violated the meaning of the Act.
