RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
An accident occurred 1 on.theJino yesterday, between'Kaitoke: and/the Upper Hutt, the passengers in the down train meeting with a most providental escape from death and injury. The train consisted of the engine, three timber trucks, two passengers cars and. the. brake, van, and wn» descending the Kaitoke' incline when suddenly the timber trucks ran off the line and were 'precipitated down a steep embankment The couplings broke, and left the engine and passenger cars; on the'.line., .'lt is surmised that some long timber got loose, and striking the side of the cutting, acted as a strong lever, throwing the three wagons off the line and breaking the cnupliuga. Greater care should be exercised in packing timber for carriage by rail,... We have seen on nipr.e th'ttii one occasion loose timber hanging over the trucks and striking the ground when tho train was in motion.
