The latter persevered, however, but eleven duck's eggs testified that the former had scored a win. The highest scores at this range were:— ■' 600 yds Private E. Kibblewhite' ...:7. Sub-Lieut. Donald ... ... 6 Color-Sergt. Girdlestone ~, 6~ Private Matthews 5 Private O. Anketell ... ... 4 > It will thus be seen that Private E. Kibblewhite, by scoring three more at this range than Anketell, beat him by two points, and is thus the winner of the Cup for the first time. It has to be won three times at intervals, or twicein suooession,, before it becomes a bona fide possession, The three highest scores are—- ; Private E, Kibblewhite ..- 33 Private C. Private Leahy and. Sub-Lieutenant Donuld provided Borne very acceptable refreshments, which the. extreme cold rendered very welcome, and. after the match for the Cup, the former offered a pair of boots to be fired for at 300-and 400 yds, the winner to be measured and to take his choice of material. Theshooting in this second match was much better than in the first, the men being allowed to take any position, and could thus work a point on the wind. The highest scores at the 300 yds were300yds Sergt, D. Dixon 18 „ C. Wilton 17 Priyato 6. Ward 16 „ A. Matthews ... 16 i, W, Dixon 15 „ G.Bentley 15 ~ G.M. Wood ... 14 001-Sergt. Girdlestone ... 14 Private C. Anketell ... 13 This was far better shooting than in the first matoh, and at the next range it was better still, the highest scores being—400ydi Private 0. Anketoll ... 17 Col.-Sergt, Girdlestone ~, 16 Private 6. M. Wood ... 16 Sergt. C, Wilton 15 Private O. Bentley... ... 13 Sergt, D. Dixon was unfortunate at this range, scoring only six. Private Anketell's low score at the first range put him out of it by two points. The scores of the four highest were— Sergt. Wilton ... ~,32 Color-sergt. Girdlestone ... 30 Private C. Anketell ~, 30 ~. G. M. Wood ... 30 Being two more points than were made by the first four ot the three ranges in the prior match, in which Sergt. Wilton was too late to compete. At the close of this match cheers were given for Private Leahy, and the company returned to town. FEATHERSTON BABBIT TRUSTEES.
