The charge s against him are.a 3 follows',—(1) That on the 10th of June, 18?8, hejjeiug employed in the Wellington Lunatic Asylum," did unlawfuily ill-use William M.lntosli, a patient within the meaning of the Lunatics Act,of 18bS; by causing him to be stripped naked in the celi in which he was confined,to be led across an exposed yard, and placed in »shower-bath for a long period to wit, ten,-minutes, while the water was running over his naked body ; (2) that lie (prisoner) did "ill-treat" the'said patient; and (3) that he did "beat, wound, and ill-treat" M'lntosh. ' The Carterton Volunteer Rifle Corps met at the Public -Hall, Carterton, on Monday, llth inst. Present on parade— Capt, Snodgrass,-Lieut. Bennett, and 31 rank and 'file, Sergt. -Major Bezar attending to bis duties in his usual efficient manner., putting those present through their yarious. company moveineiito After the dismissal, the usual monthly meeting of the corps was held. The Captain reported that he bad received trom Captain Buck a full clearance from the Masterton Corps of Volunteer Diedrick. On the motion of Lieut. Bennett, seconded by Volunteer Marshall, Mr Diedrick was_ elected a momber of the corps. _Suh-Lieut. Potts placed his resignation in the hands .of the captain. It was unanimously resolved, on the motion of Volunteer Aberball, seconded by Vol. Minifie, that the corps -would riot for one moment entertain the resignation. On tbo motion of Vol. Aberball, seconded by Vol. Greeks, the usual monthly meeting of the corps ,was. adjourned to Monday next, owing to the .'soiree to be held in the Public Hall on the date of drill, At the meeting on Monday next full arrangements will bo made as to the prize competition to take place oil the 'following Thursday, We have to point out to the members of the' Carterton Corps that the attendance is not so satisfactory as it should be. There are a large number of members oil the book, but unless they roll up in a better manner than they have done, there is' but little prospect of their obtaining the capitation grant, hopes of which were held out to them by the captain at the parade. The meeting ter minated shortly after 9 o'clock, The most Genuine Clearing Sale ever held in the Wairarapa will be commenced to-day. Messrs Schroder,' Hooper & Co. having decided to sell the whole of their well assorted stock of drapery within one month, have resolved to give all customers 1 Real and Genuine Bargains.
