RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

GREYTOWN TUESDAY.

(Before H. S. Wardell, Esq., E.M.) Constable BrunsMUvH. ; S. Wickerson. —Breach of Licensing Act, 1873, clause 6, which provides against any person not duly licensed selling alcoholic liquor. The case attempted to bo proved was that' the defendant bad sold liquor at the Working Men's Club, Greytown, and the liquor so sold was [carded off the premises for .con-sumption,-which, it was-contended-on behalf of tho prosecution, could not legally be doue. It transpired, however,'that theperson to whom the liquor was sold was a member of the Club* The prosecution endeavored to shew that inasmuch as the witness was eighteen months, in arrear with his subscription he was fco longer a member, as the rules of the Club provided that any member being two quarters in arrear with; his subscriptions, if he had. received 'notice fromthe Club or failed to, make good-his payments, was longer a member. ■ As, however, it was not proved that lie had ever received such notice, the Court held that he must still be considered a member, His Worship complimeuted Constable BrunslrilL on the earnest'-arid able manner in which be bad conducted his~ case,-but felt'bound to dismiss the information on the evidence produced. Several civil oases were disposed of, which wore of no public interest. ■
