The Chairman Wainuioru Rabbit District,

I am glad to be able to report, riot only with regard the Wainuioru, .but also'the other two districts under my'charge, steps are being taken where poisoning is necessary; to commence reducing the rabbits in a systematic and efficient manner, The success which has attended the system of destruction by poison, is, I may say, almost universal throughout the'Wairarapa, and this fact has been-of. great, assistance in removing the disinclination exhibited to a great extent last season, to adopl'Jhhj method of pealing with; the, pest, Landowners how have" every 'confidence in the efficacy' of' ohosphorised grain, and'appreciate the value of'it, as the cheapest and: most, effecttve, wsty, ofreducing the rabbits to what may be termed reasonable numbers; Notwithstanding that a good commencement has been made, jt isof the utmost importance that there should he no cessation'in, the efforts of landowners through thb ; winter months' to so reduce! .'tho rabbits while poison"-is thoroughly.effectivethatit.willbea.comparativejy. easy matter. to: keep.'; th'em T fairly in check during the summer and autumn by other means,, andto prevent',' if possible, the encroachment of the pest on landsliitherto comparatively free 1 ; • ; lh' some instances it .happens that although the steDs taken may be saidto be reducing' the rabbits; • still they Wh! : ;do!'rigV sufficiently to that by thecommenn i ement;pf;summer r: the.,abpvei mentioned result wiirtejrrived'at.''"lt' ■will therefprebeiuiy-.duty.riowitpjtakethe; question ".wh.at',are:.efficie"nt/6tepg,wtlen poison .only, is being used-?-into my consideration ivithia exertioW'onvithe-! patfccqf :■ landownefßt&V' will,.in my opinion,: ensure the desired end.i',' '.•"' : ''!«nt!-9»oy!
