A PROTEST.
[To the Editor of the Dam.] ; Spt—Anyone living jn the upper.p'or,tion of Queen-street will not have failed to notice that although the portion of the. street from the Post Office corner to the Upper Plain road junction ia kept in a thorough state of.cjeanliness and repair, that from the same point to the Waipoua bridge is left in a state that would be bad in a small country settlement, butwhichis a positive disgrace to the Borough of Mastorton. On' the left side, going towords the bridge, a series of small lakes collect during each shower of roain, On some occasions the surface water nearly extends across the read. opposite ■■ the butcher's shop. This 'is partly caused through the dViiin ' nsvef being clear. All tho rubbish, bits of Btraw, ; &c., ; collect on the surface of the water, and wnea it subsides they lay about tho street In all 'sorts "of: shapes," whioh, from an artistic pojnt of View, maybo considered graceful, but which to an orderly mind k simply : disgusting. I think some of the Borough Councillors should take notice of this matter.arid/ bring.it before the Courioil, which, body are to be blamod for ,hot seeing; to"it before. , . ; Yours,,&C.,' ; . Order, .
