WELLINGTON CATTLE BOARD.

(From the N.Z, Times)

The first meeting of the Wellington Cattle Board was held in the Provincial Buildings at 10 a.m. on Friday. Present —Messrs H. Bunny (chairman) and G. Beotharn.

Mr D. Maunsoll, secretary to the Premier, attended, and read Notice No. 93, published in the Government Gazette oi the 7th inst,, constituting the Board, anc 1 other correspondence upon the subject.

Mr Beetham moved—" That whereas pleui'o-pneumonia is known to .exist in the colony of Victoria, all cattle arriving from the said colony be kept in quarantine for a period of thirty days.''—Carried.

Mr Beetham moved—"That the two Hereford bulls which arrived from Melbourne by tho Ringarooraa on Good Friday be kept iu quarantine at the Quarantine Station, Kaiwarra, for thirty days."

Mr Mauns6ll produced certificates from the cattle inspector, Melbourne, and Mr Mackay, veterinary surgeon, Wellington, pronouncing the two animals free from contagious diseases. The letter, however, recommended that as the shippers were dealers in cattle, the animals be kept in quarantine for some time. The motion, which was rendered necessary owing to the cattle having been landed prior to the first meeting of the Board, was carried. Mr Beetham said they should ascertain in what position they stood with regard to the rules adopted by other cattle boards, as it might be quite possible to land cattle at a port where they were less stringent, and then to bring them on from there thus avoidiug their regulations,

Mr Maunsell said he had been in correspondence with the boards at Dunedin, Christchurch and Auckland on th o subject, and found that the first named was the only one which did not have a fixed quarantine term, butattention havingbeen drawn to the subject it was to have been taken into consideration at the last meet ing. The practise was to call a meeting whenever cattle arrived from outside the colony. Tho Board then rose.
