Your Trustees have much pleasure in submitting their annual report, and the balance sheet for the year ending 31s.t March, 1881, The year commenced with a debtor balance of £SB 6s 9d, which, owing to dull times and consequent difficulty in collecting the rents—without taking extreme measures, which we considered undesirable—combined with other causes, to raise this amount to £l4l 3s 3d.
The total income for the year was £l9B Is Id, and the expenditure £2oo 18a 7d. The latter included payments of grants as follows! School Committee to supplement assistant teacher's salary, £45. and for purchase of harmonium and kiuder garten appliances m, Fern-ridge School Committee, 110, Park Trustees'£ls) and Public Library Committee, interest guaranteed, £6O. A number of Trust acres in Queen-st, your Trustees have had fenced at a cost of £'2s 7s sd, for paddocking. As will be seen Jn the statement of assets and liabilities, after payment of outstanding votes, &c., the debtor balance will be £2B Is lid only, which. must be considered a satisfactory state of finances. Negotiations have been entered into with the Education Board of Wellington for making an exchange of lands; the arrangements proposed being that your Trustees should give town acres 52 and 54 and part of acre 50 and pay the sum of £4OO, and rSceive town acre 89 in return with the school and schoolmaster's. buildings s and that the Education Board should at once, erect on the new site school buildings to the value of. £I2OO at least,
In order to give free expression of opinion on the: matter a meeting of voters was held in the Town Hall, and the ;subject.laid fully before'them, and a,poll was afterwards takeu which resulted in the proposed exchange being sanctioned by a majority of 131, the Government haying agreed to bring in a bill next session to legalise the exchange, your Trustees have requested that power be given them in the new measure to raise the. required sum of £ioo. ;

' v £155 7 i Mr Fayton, in seconding- the motion, pointed out that the arrears due to the Trust seemed heavy, but, if the Trustees had been too easy on this score, the fault lay with the public who did not avail themselves of; the privileges which the annual meeting gave them. The liberal and enterprising manner in which the Trustees had responded to every claim made upon them was above praise, and fully accounted for any little embarrassment they might labor under.. The report was- unanimously adopted, and Messrs R. Wilsone and W, cellar were elected auditors. The Chairman pointed out that it was a great pity that the public did not take more interest in the matter. Though the revenue wasstnall it would shortly increase considerably. A vote of thanks was ..passed, on th« motion of W.MoCardle seconded by JJr Hales to Messrs Feißt and Perry, the|| retiring Trustees, Mr Feist, in acknowledging it, expressed his intention to ofler himself for election (applause)—as he took a deep interest in the Trust, Mr Perry ibelieyed that he should again offer himself for reelection, but could not decide that evening. The time he could direct to public affairs was necessarily limited. . The meeting conoluded with the customary compliment to the Chairman.
