The above Board met at the Council Chambers, Carterton, oh Saturday, the sth inst. Present-Messrs Booth (Chairman), Nix, Welch, and Strawbridgo. The minutes of the previous meetiug wore read and confirmed, ■ The following tenders were then opened and let : Nix's line—ll chains, more or less, meUliing; 6 tenders. • J. Hart, lis per chain,'accepted. Middleton, Taratahi, 28 chains, more or less, formation and metalling ap'-' proaches to railway station; 7 tenders. D.Reid.at LI 7s 6d, accepted. . East Taratahi road—34 ohains, more or less, ve-formation and metalling,-? lenders ; RDayah,accepted, formation and metalling, IBs 6d per chain; metalling 5 chains, 18a 6d. Warden Reynolds explained that this; contract had been divided into two sections, one formation' and metaHing; the other the lattter only. The following tenders were directed to be advertised road,: 80 chains, more or less, metalling and formation and metalling; Francis'.line, 57 chains, more or loss,' metalling|. Waterson's line, 10 'ohains - formation and metalling, and 10 chains formation.
Mr Welph'reported that-Mr Phillips gave a donation of L2 2s towards the latter \ybrk",. and he was authorised to place a bulyert, with approaches, on Udy's liue,;at a cost not exceedingly.! . Messrs Hooker having again written; the.Board re the tramway being laid by Mr-Chew on Arnold's line, the Secretary was instructed to write him that the Board 1 must again request him to remove same, and if. he proaecuted same he would do so. at his own risk.
A resolution was passed, appointing Mr Gple Eeturning Officer ■ for the forthcoming election ,of Wardens, which brought, the business of the meeting to a close. - '■'" ; ■'.■■■ ■'■-

The Treasurer presented his monthly financial statement, shewing present credit balance at bank Slil 18a 6d,'receipts during last month £197 8s <td, rates collected £1590 0a Od, rates outstanding £ll9s6d.

Sinclair, asking for removal of Borne timber fallen on his place; from West County County Council,'asking whether the Board is prepared to take over the Waiohino toll gate; from D. Morrison, asking permission to-remove a stock-yard off present ; line of road; from W. Wratten asking for a bullock dray roidto hiß.run at Ahaitaital; from 0, Pharazyn, asking that the road near his house be .now improved j from'C. W. Jackson, and. qthera, asking foil ropaii's to the road known as Carkeek's line and to bridge this oreek; from chairman West County Council askaßkiiig for estimate of repairs to .the main road, ' ■ '

That the engineer be instructed to 'furnish the Wairarapa West County Council with-the estimate of cost of repairs of main road and bridges to September next as requested. '• That the Wairarapa West County Council be replied to assenting to. the proposition of taking ever the Black Bridge Toll Gate, with a' view ' of providing funds for' a new bridge, ■ 3UOSESHONS. •..,;,...-..•■ -. . MrJackson-asked'tbat about Unchains of road at Moroa Bush' road be fenced' as asked for, and that tenders be called for 'the'same. ..;..' .. ' Mr Donald asked that "Oiirkeek's- line be improved, and the culvert repaired, and that the Engineer be directed to examine Mr Pliarazyn's road and report as to cost at the next meeting. - Mr Smith asked that tenders be at once called for for brining about 20 chains at Wharekaka...>- ..■•••.. ■ ■ • Mr Russell wished to have a culvert repaired on the Lower Valley road, ' The Clerklaid the valuation list qn the table, as vovised by the' Assessment Court. • It was resolved on.the motion'of Mr Russell, seconded by Mr. Matthews—that tis the intention of the Board to levy, at the next meeting, a rate of Is in the i ou rateable property. ..Resolved on the .motion of Mp Mattliows, seconded by Mr JacbdnTnat applications be invited for an occasional engineer; stating terms per diem. Mr Russell moved, Mr Walker secon-ded-That the services of an Enginer be paid for out of the general.funds of the Board.. . .
The motion was declared lost, Tho meeting then terminated.
