RAM AND EWE FAIR.

The third annual Earn and Ewe Fair under the. auspices of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society took place on Saturday, last, on the Society's grounds at Carterton. The special traia-brought a good muster of visitors from all parts of the district, and the general, arrangements made in connection with the Fair were characterised with the efficiency which Mr Wolters, the secretary of the Society, invariably displays with all his' undertakings. The entries showed a considerable falling-off "since last year, only 150 rams bein» yarded,'aud.no ewes being exhibited" Last year there were, 'too ma'nj rams and too few purchasers.-, This year there were not sufficient on the ground to satisfy the requirements of the 'purchasers," Beside, the lots sold by auction, full particulars of .which are. given below, a number of others were disposed of privately 'at satisfactory prices. The gross amount realised by s the sales was about the same as .last year.. The prices,' instead of ranging from 10s to 255, went from 25s to lO.guineas. - It was, : however, obvious that the best rams in the districtwere not brought to the Fair. Wejiope, next season, to see.this done, so -that every attraction which; is'lifoly to draw visitors from all parts of, the district may be presented,; The : 'auctioneers on' Saturday last were Messrs'F. H. Wood 'and J. M. Girdlestpne. Fens from No. Ito No. 30, and from No, 35 to'So, 45', werp sold by Mr Wood, and' froiii No., 'Bf to No. ; 34byMrGirdlestone,' Messrs Beetham's entries were purchased privately by Mr Tttlly. Mrs Barton's. Merinos were purchased by Mr J. C. Vallance privately at £1 per head. 1 Mb Buchanans LINCOMS,
