FEATHERSTON PUBLIC SCHOOL.
On Monday' lasla meeting of the Featherston "School' committeee was held.at the Local Board.Office. ' Present^Messrs, Cox (in . the Chair)',Oundy, Cobhaui,' Donald, Toogood, and Williams. - "■:''
A letter from Mr Wardoll was received, : stating that he was called away to Masterton on other business. '
■The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confitmed, The Chairman gave notice that he would read the list of .persons nominated for the election of three-members forthe Education Board. ' . ■■'■: ■ . •
. A vote was then taken with the following result:—Henry Bunny 7 votesj F. E.' Darby 0, W. Francis 0, W. A.jFitzlierbert 0, W. Hutchison 1, Hon 6, R, Johnson 5, Thos. Lidbetter 0, Thoa. Mason 0, Charles Phamzyn 7, Coleman Phillips 1. ' The result' was therefore in favor of Messrs Bunny, Pharazyn; and the Hon Randal-Johnson.
•A public meeting was held the same evening at the Local Boai d Office, Mr. J. 6. Cox in the Chair, at which the following resolutions' were'passed : 1. Proposed by Mr Cuhdy, and seconded by Mr Donald-That in the opinion of this meeting itiaadvisable that an application be made to the Board of Educa--tid'n to _ recommend a'ti. alteration in the Education Act, with regard to the present' system of nomination of committees, and also tlie objectionable system of voting for members of committees.
2. -Proposed.by Jlr Oobham, and seconded by Mr Oundy-That this meeting is of opinion that it would be better if nominations' for' seats on committees-. were made one week before the elections.
3, Proposed by Mr Tuckey, and seconded by Mr Williams—That this meeting strongly condemns the present system, of cumulative voting for persons to ; sorve on committees, and hopes the Board of Education 'will'take' immediate step's to have the same altered; and renueßts.the"cooperation of other School Oommitteea...,.
• 4. Proposed by Mr Donald; arid 'seconded by Mr Fry—That the Chairman be requested-.to send-tho forgoing resolutions to the-'Board of Education, hoping-'thev Bba'rd willifake the necessary steps to have the Act amended,
5. Proposed' by Mr." Tnogood, and seconded.-by;..Mr,. Williams—That; the' Chairman be empowered .to act with- the': committee in Greytown and "other committees,- iii accordance with-the : wishes- of this meeting. ■ ' - ! • .
