It .is disheartening .to think that Masterton has no aspirants for municipal honors. lij the honor doubtful, or have theigood burgesses "suddenly become meek 1. .Did .they depend, too implicitly upon a promise -by ■; the immediate exMayor—that he had a ma,n ready to fill tKe'vacanoyl That was fatherly I • He took the constituency uiider- his expanded &c-Mayoral wing, ; and tenderly proposed to provide for it. That was motherly! .•■ •'! ;Nb*doubt all' the " old electors swelled with, gratitude, and with .folded atmsdetfoutly gossiped about'the' " Baby." '. The hour, arrived, but not the" Bsy." The ex-MayOr's. hope had miscarried, and : Jiasterto.q, : wai ; without ■ a .counsellor, -What ! ! -No one anxious to. represent an ex-Mayor ?vThauk goodness, liud .take courage.' ;■ Hdre-is cin .opportunity i-~': '. The ex-Mayor's ill-advised and unfortunate conception' may be'Conv'erted to public advantaget by. rousing the ratejiybra to a sense of their duty to' publio business, and prompt theni to guard their privileges and exercise, their right .to chose who,shall represent tliem.-
