At the entrance of the platform, near thearoh; Hii Excellency.was, received by the'Acting-Mayor, who was introduced to Sir A, Gordon by the. premier. .. On; the platform.was the Mayor elect, Mr James McGosli Clarke, severai representatives of looal bodieß, and. half a dozen clergymen, but only one member of the Legislature, MivJ; Av.Tole, member for Eden, 'Oh His Excellency ascending the platform, the Acting-Mayor .offered him a cordial welcome oil behalf of the citizens of Auckland, and. expressed ff hope' tlist'his>ppomtment would be a harbinger of better times.
