TARATAHI-CARTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the Tara. tahi-Carterton Highway Board was helc at the Council Chambors, Carterton, 01: Tuesday, the'26th inst.
Present-Messrs Booth, (chairman) Reynolds, Nix, Lister-Kayo, and Straw, bridge.
The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Balance at the Bank having been reported as read, the Bank balances were reported as follows : Ward account, £6l Gs 8d; tollgate account, £B6 Is Bd. . b .
The following accounts were passed for paymant :-R, Wakelin, advertising, £2 2s; J, Chew, timber for repairs to Muiigataueru £4lslld;o.E. Oliver, repairs to Gladstone Road, £116 3 ; Carter's line, £2 lis; E. Anderson, Biirvey plans, Frances' line, £4 5s 6d; fl. Gawler Olivers' line, £1; Duffin, progress payment, £21:93 (3d; J. Taylor, repair! .to tools, 7s lOd.
The following tenders for formation &c., on Frances and Reynolds' lino were, opened :-J Bond, 8s 6d per chain, fe ¥ed^; Phili P 3 ' l33 i J - H MUi Allen and Gillard, l(ta; Ctokin and Daysh, 5s lOd ;W.Goe,Bsj Hd ;O,E. Oliver 10s; A. Burgess, 14s 6d; and £G for culvort,
A letter from the Colonial Secretary was reuci, statiny that tho questiau as to the laying of a tramway by Mr Chew on a road was ono on which tho Board should obtain the opinion of their own solicitor • A letter was read from Mr G. Beetham, M.H.R., stating that ho had interviewed the natives, relative to the disputed line at Hurunuioraiigi, and the work would be proceeded with at once, tho delay having arisen from tho illness of Herini Ho had agreed, subject to the sanction of tho Board, to supply 3. cwts. wire and staples, as the natives had not the money to provide it. •
The Chairman stated that lie had seen Mr. Beetham, and had told Mr Moore to lofc . tllß I ] ativea have tho wire on application. . .
It was moved by Warden Nix, seconded by Warden Reynolds, that the Board approve the action taken.by the Chairman m the matter,
Wardens Reynolds and Lister-Kayo were authorised to see Mr E. Anderson, and instruct him to at once lay off a road through portion of native land under certificate of title at Hurunuiorangi. • An application to supply rate-roll to Carterton Rabbit Trustees free of cost was referred back to the Trustees, stating that the roll would furnished on payment Of LI Is.
The Secretary stated that he had' ratenotice 1880-81 ready to issue, and was preparing particulars in triplicate to issue summonses on ratepayers in arrear. Messrs Donald and Raynor attended the Board as a deputation from ratepayers, in Wad No. 7, offering to subscribe for the formation of 35 chaiiiß of road on Vile's line, West Taratahi, and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Lister-Kaye, seconded by Mrßeynoldsihat Mr Boys be authorised to issue tenders to the amount subscribed, and any further sum from the revenue of tho Ward, too, if he deemed it advisable to contribute to agreement tho voluntary subscriptions, and give Mr Anderson necessary instriuctions for plans and specifications. '
Mr Donald stated that the complaint of Mr Ridgway; made at tho last meeting of he Board was groundless, as he had not alien timber on the road, or sledged timber thereon for over twelve months. ihe meeting then adjourned.
