Although not by any means outsido prices, yet they are about £2O above what the same privileges yielded last year. A mooting of tho Masterton Library Committee was held yesterday, Present —Messrs-Feist' (chairman), Boddington Bennett, McGregor, Iteiiall,. nnd. Hales! Tho minutes of tho previous meeting having been read- and -.confirmed, the secretary reported that he had written to the Secretary of Hit hospital committee, informing him of tho decision with regard to allowing the custodial of that institution freo use of the library; that all accounts passed at last meeting.had been duly paid; that he expected to receive a cheque from tho Town Clerk in the course of a few days for proportion of the rates collected; that the.present system adopted with regard to smoking room, viz., allowing members.only to use the room, was found to bo a groat improvement, but suggested that if a chess club could be formed it. would bo advisable to lot them have the room for three evenings a week, at a nominal rental; that in compliance with a request from the secretary of the! Kaiwaiwai library, he had forwarded that body a copy of tho rules and regulations; that he had received from the Government Printer a volume of statutes for 1880, receipt of which had been duly acknowledged ; That the insurance on the building, which lapsed on 29th September hist, had been renewed at a saving of LI 15s for the ensuing year; that a bank draft had' been forwarded to London in payment for periodicals for 1881; and that the total receipts since last meeting were L3612s 6d, of this amount L3O was from tho Town Lands Trustees on account of interest guarantea'dbythem. The annual meeting ol shareholders of the Wairarapa Sale Yards Company, convened at the Company's office at Carterton for the 25th inßt., lapsed for' want of a quorum.:/

Officers and brothers of the Loyal Masterton Lodgejof Oddfellows are summoned to attend at the Lodge; room, Empire Hotel, on Monday,'the Ist November, at 10 a. m. Bharp, to form into the procession to tho opening of the Masterton railway. Sister lodges and visiting brothers are fraternally invited to attend in regalia. The Committee of the Greytown Fire Brigade met on Tuesday evening, to consider the best measures to adopt, since the Borough Council had declined to find the appliances. Messrs Cuff (captain), Maguire, Avery, Baillie, Bishop, Loasby, and Haigh were present, After discussion it was resolved to convene a meeting of members and the public at the Town Hall for Friday, at 7 o'clock, to submit report, and to leave the matter of forming a Bucket Brigade in the hands of the meeting. Messrs Cufl and Bock were appointed a committee to prepare report, and the meeting adjourned.
