DIOCESAN SYNOD.

(Prom the N.Z. Times.) , The adjourned meeting of the Synod was held at 7,30 on Friday, Present— The President; .clergy, Archdeacon Stock, Archdeacon Thorpe, Eev T. L. Tudor, Rev B, W, Harvey, Eev H. V. White, Rev A, Towgood, Rev J. Jones, S. Fancourt, Rev A Dasent, Rev W. Ballachey. Rev C.H.S. Nicholls, Rev CD. DeOastroj Rev R. Coffey; laity, Messrs W. H. Quick, 0. P. Powles, R, Hunter, W, France, Hon, C. J. Pharazyn, G. W, Williams,.J, A. Plimmer, D, Porter, J. E, Smith, W. H. Levin, Captain Hewitt, G. F. Allen, G, Didsbury, Colonel Leckie, 0, D. Barrand, Dr Spratt, 0, Rous-Marten.

Proceedings wero opened with prayer, and the minutes of the former day were read and confirmed.

Archdeacon. Stock reported that the report on the Melanesia Mission was not ready. Moved by Archdeacon Stock, seconded by the Lay Secretary,—That the Synod go into committee on the report of the Standing Committee on the revision of the Acts and Resolutions and Standing Orders of the Synod/ Archdeacon Thorpe asked to be relieved from the duties of Chairman of Committees.

Moved by Mr Didsbury, seconded by Kov T. L,' Tudor,—That Mr Powles be Chairman of Committees.—Carried.

The original motion was then put, and carried.

Various proposed alterations in Acts of the Synod were agreed to in committee, Moved by Archdeacon Thorpe, seconded by Archdeacon Stock,—That a committee be appointed to take into consideration the report on the'working of the General Church Fund, Such committee to consist of the Revs B, W.-Harvey, T. Fancourt, J. Jonas,' Messrs Levin, Quick, Allen, Smith, Dr Spratt, and the mover. The names of Rev T. L. Tudor, Captain Hewitt, Mr Powles, and Mr Williams, were added to the committee, The motion was then put and carried. Moved by Mr Powles, seconded by Rev A, Towgood,—That the statement re General Church Fund be referred to committefl to consider Archdeacon Thorpe's report.-Carried. . The following question was asked by the Rev J. Jones of the President,—Whether, at the recent election of ]ay representatives of this Diocese to the General Synod, Statute I, olause 8, was complied with, and in what way the districts of the Manawatu were represented in that Synod?

The President, replied Statute I, clause 8, had no reference to the recent election of lay representatives of this ■diocese to the General Synod. The clause was complied with by the Synod in 18!?5 by the enactment of Act 8. The latter portion of the question is answered by the third clause of the.Bchedule appended to the Act. I would further add,that there is no Statute or Act requiring the President to give information on this subject. ':'■■.

Moved by Rev H. V. White, seconded by Dr Spratt—That a committee be appointed 1 ' to sub-divide the Parochial District of Greytdwn into three subdistricts, baying: their centres at Carterton,' Greytown, and Featheraton; and to determine what share in the stipend of the curate is due from each sub-district, as its minimum contribution to the General Church Fund. The committee to consist of the Right Rev the President, Rev W. Booth, Dr Spratt, Mr Barraud, and the mover—By leave of the Synod, this motion was postponed.
