THE PROPERTY TAX AMENDMENT BILL.

The Property Assessment Act Amendment Act has jußt been circulated. Section 1 provides that this Bill shall be read and construed togother with the Property Assessment Act, 1879, and the two Acts together may be cited as The Property Assessment Acts, 18794880. Section 2 runs as follows To. the. classes ,ot property exempt from taxation under the said Act, as mentioned , in section 26, there shall be .' added the following :—. " All household furniture and effects in actual use, including, books, plate, wear: ing apparel, jewelry of all kinds, and all pictures and works of art ; but such exemption shall not extend to or includeany such-articles when used or kept as a stock in trade, and for purposes of sale." Section 3 is as follows" The statement to be issued under the thirty-second section of The Property Assessment Act, 1879, (hereinafter called ' the said Act'), shall be in the form or to, the effect set forth in the schedule to this Act. All provisions of the said Act which are inconsistent with this section are hereby repealed." The schedule gives the following as the new form under which the statements required by the Act are to be made:— schedule. / Property assessment for th» year ending 31st March, 18 , Property Assessment District: Namo: .
