THE PROPERTY TAX AMENDMENT BILL.
The Property Assessment Act Amendment Act has jußt been circulated. Section 1 provides that this Bill shall be read and construed togother with the Property Assessment Act, 1879, and the two Acts together may be cited as The Property Assessment Acts, 18794880. Section 2 runs as follows To. the. classes ,ot property exempt from taxation under the said Act, as mentioned , in section 26, there shall be .' added the following :—. " All household furniture and effects in actual use, including, books, plate, wear: ing apparel, jewelry of all kinds, and all pictures and works of art ; but such exemption shall not extend to or includeany such-articles when used or kept as a stock in trade, and for purposes of sale." Section 3 is as follows" The statement to be issued under the thirty-second section of The Property Assessment Act, 1879, (hereinafter called ' the said Act'), shall be in the form or to, the effect set forth in the schedule to this Act. All provisions of the said Act which are inconsistent with this section are hereby repealed." The schedule gives the following as the new form under which the statements required by the Act are to be made:— schedule. / Property assessment for th» year ending 31st March, 18 , Property Assessment District: Namo: . Occupation ; Address: In pursuance of the Property Assessment Acts, 1879-80, yoil.are hereby required to make a return of all your pioperty in the following form, and cause the same to be forwarded to the Deputy Oommissihner of your district at on or before the , in default of which you will be liable to a penalty of £IOO, and to be assessed and charged treble duty. Property Tax Department, ,18 . Commissioner, ' £ Total value of all my interest in lands, buildings, or leases, • after deducting all liabilities due by me thereon ... ... Total value of all other property belonging to me, but excluding . household furniture, jewelry, plate, works of ait, . and shares in public companies, after. deducting my just debts, for which exemption ... ... Less exemption ... ... 500 Taxable value ... £ . Declaration.
