The adjourned meeting in Percy's estate takes place to-morrow at 2 p.m. in Mr D'Arcy's office. The all-comers were beaten at the football practice at Masterton yesterday afternoon.
A meeting of the Masterton Cemetery Trustees, and of the Park Trustees, takes place this afternoon. Mr Grundy, the proposed new mastor of the Masterton School, has held tho position-of first assistant at the Mount Cook School in Wellington. Messrs F. H. Wood & Co. hold a sale of furniture and general merchandise at their auction rooms, Greytown, to-mor-row.
A parcel containing somo appropriate toys has been left at this office with instructions to deliver the same to the " Maatoi-ton Infant" on application, Tho first annual meeting of the mem* bers of the Masterton Union Club takes place this evening. We understand that the Committee has a very satisfactory report to make of the past year's operations.
The tea-meeting in connection with the Wesleyan Church at Greytown was well patronised, Messrs Baumber, Hart, Thomas, Rush, and others addressed the meeting,
At a meeting of the Court Loyal Enterprise last evening, Bro. 6. Dixon wat elected Chief Ranger, Bro. Wiokens, S.C.R.; Bro, J. Yates, S.W,; Bro, 6. Smith, J.W.; Bro. Fleming, 5.8.; Bro. Farquhar, J. 8.; Treasurer, R. Brown : Secretary, W. M. Easthope; Bros. Bikini, Crewe, and Parkes. A committee was appointed to consider the celebration of the anniversary of the Court.
The silver cup presented to the Greytown Volunteers by Mr W. Bock (won by Volunteer Saywell), and the field glass presented by Lieutenant Cameron (won by Corporal Webster), and the candle-sticks presented by Mr R, A. Wakelin (won by Lieutenant Porter), were handed to the winners by Captain Macara at the last inspection parade of the company. We hope to hear of many sueh presentations being made, as it tends to institute extra spirit into the corps.
On the old roll there were 1886 names, on the new roll prepared by Mr Freeth, the Registrar, there are 1,694 names t*ken from the old one. As there were numerous duplicate and triplicate entries on the old roll, it follows at a matter of course that a certain reduetion should be necessary. We do not, however, believe that, a single genuine elector in this district has been disfranchised in the making up of the new roll.
There wa« a soene in court yesterday. Mr Franklin was med for a debt due to Mr-Ewingion and pleaded infancy. Tin court would not accept the plea, unsupported as it was by other evidence than that of the infant himself, and gave judgment against him. At the conclusion of the case Mrs Ewington created a sensation by presenting the claimant to infancy with a rattle, under the eyes of the Bench. Mr Wardell had the offender removed' from the Court, and later in the day fined her £1 for contempt of court, with the alternative of forty-eight hours' imprisonment.
We are informed that yesterday the bridge over Stony Creek, Forty-Mile Bush, has broken down completely. It is evident that tenders were not called a day too soon for one to take its place, the tender being accepted on Wednesday last.
' We' learn from the Times that at the late meeting of the Eduoation Board. A letter was read from Mr Gun 1 , re payment for.tuition in extra subjects. The Board decided that the matter was not for their consideration. It was resolved to acknowledge a letter from the Clare-' villa School Committee coverings resolution re Mrs Palmer, the reply of the Boird to' be to the effect that as Mrs Palmer had severed her connection with the school by taking one month's notice instead of fchreoj they did not consider it advisable to take any action in the matter. ,A letter was read; .from Mr Braithwaite;. offering an acre of land for a school site at Waihakeke.
