A £IOO banknote was recenily in circulation at Wanganui. The discovery of the phenomena has caused considerable local excitement. We understand that the railway is to be open for passenger traffic on the 20th or 22nd March. G. S._ W. Dalrymple, of Masterton, commission agent, has given notice of application for discharge in the Bankruptcy Court. At the wool sales on the 25th inst., 10,500 bales were catalogued, with an active demand, and the likelihood of a a further advance. The Greytown cricketers have succeeded in securing a special train to Wellington and back on the 17th March, when the return match with the Bohemian Club will come off, The Greytown Private Brass Band has kindly consented to play at the cricket ground to-morrow afternoon, when the match Masterton v. Greytown will be played in Stewart's paddock. A' meeting of creditors in the estate of William Hester, farmer, at Masterton, was convened for Thursday last at Wellington, and also of Joseph Baigent, storekeeper, of Wairarapa. Both meetings lapsed for want of a quorum. The Masterton Volunteer Band will play on the balcony of Watson & Winteringham'a saddlery establishment, this evening, the following selections : March, " On the Bright, Golden Shore," Webster; Polka," Invitation" D'Albert; Waltz, " Flodden Field," Sarah Green; Gallop, " Neuf Chattell," Masson; March " Watch on the Rhine," Wilhelm; Gallop, " Trumpeter," Coote. J. B. Witt, confectioner, of Timaru was aroused at 2 on Tuesday morning by the noise of a supposed burglar in his house, and, arming himself with a poker, he proceeded to his back door, when he met a tall, stout-built man, A ferocious struggle ensued, ending in the trespasser escaping, and with Mr Witt securing his hat as a means ef identification. With the aid of this a man named John Bushley, a stranger, was arrested this morning, and brought before the Bench. He pleaded drunkenness, but was sentenced to a fortnight's imprisonment. The Sydney Evening News writes ; " One of the Wantabadgery bushrangers is named Graham Bennett, and it is presumed from a circumstance occurring during the Police Court trial at Gundagai, that the officiating magistrate is interested in Victorian politics, and has strong Conservative sympathies. When the duty devolved upon him of committing the bushrangers for trial, he is reported to have looked solemnly at the prisoner Bennett, and said, " Graham Berry, you are charged before this honorable court," &c. Luckily, the P.M. is not a Victorian civil servant, or such a fearful joke would probably result in another" Black Wednesday" for his special and exclusive benefit,
