Carterton v Lower Yalley, A Match was played between the above Clubs on the ground of the former, on Saturday, the 21st inst,, the Lower Valley scoring another win in the first innings, as the darkness hindered the second innings, though if the match had been played to the conclusion, the issuewould probably have been the same. Mr 6. «Stewart acted as umpire'for the Carterton team, and Mr Williams for the Lower Yalley team. The fielding was anything but up to to the mark, although the large score of the Lower Valley team in the first, innings may, to a great extent, be attributed to the Captain, Mr Edmunds, having put on a comparative stranger, to' the ground as bowler, who luxuriated in slow underhand balls that were easily dispatched to all parts of the field. The Captain may have proved a very efficient secretary to the Carterton Club in the past, but we doubt if he has sufficient judgment and determination of "chin'acter to make a good Captain. / The lunch,, which was provided by Mr T._Ray; did credit .to to -the caterer.
