Bill and the Immigration and Public Works Bills were went through in Committee, The House then went into Committee on the Public Works Bill, when the Government withdrew the objee-
tionable 30th clause and asked the House to give them permission to expend a sum not exceeding £60,000 on private railways. Grey said he should still oppose the Bill, and when the proper time came he should address the House at length on the subject.
After a good deal of discussion the House passed a vote of £6O 000. The Public Works Bill was read third time and passed.

Thursday. The goodwill and lease of the Butland Hotel, three and a half years to run, was sold, for £I,OOO to Frank Evans, of Bulls. Evans also purchased the freehold of the property from W H.
