The Returning Officer reported the elechon of Councillor Smith to the office of Mayor. B RESOLUTIONS. 1 Resolved that Mr Tait's proposal cai not at present be entertained. g On the motion of Councillor Wakelil seconded bj Councillor Barnard it its resolved that the officers of the Ml Bngade,Me S srsCuff,MaguiM )a ndAverf be appointed fire inspectors under the Municipal Corporations ict, 18?6 Re letter from Standard, Councillor Barnard thought it was too dictatorial and quite out of place. He considered the lown Clerk was quite justified in his action re printing by-laws, and his action should be endorsed by the Council. Councillor Gray moved; Councillor Fuller seconded, that tho order for printing by-laws be given to the Standard provided, only; that they be printed and stitched in covers at £3 per 250 copies,

failing which the order be given to the Dahy office,—Carriecl.

Re Inspector T)f-Nuisances, Gauncillor Gray moved, Councillor Barnard seconded, that the Town Clerk be instructed to ask. Mr Braggins if he will accent the office, and upon what terms. Re scale of poundage fees, Councillor Wakelin moved, Councillor Gray secon-i ded, that the charge for writing same be L ascertained from Messrs Avery, Beard '% and Gilbert & Nash ; also the charge for painting the numbers for licensed carts. Re Carts parading for license, it was resolved that the date be fixed at future, meeting. • FABTENES. The following accounts were passed foe payment :-W. H. Morris, £l2 ss; R. Morris, £5 7s 9d. :. The extra work on Pap'awai road completed by W. H. Morris, was referred to the Works Committee to report. Councillor Barnard mentioned the matter of Councillors absenting themselvesfrom the meetings, and hoped they would bear m mind the clause of the Act upon the matter. ~: The meeting then adjourned, J A special meeting was afterwards for the purpose otff Hering the adoption of the reSolutio;«N iemp. ton-Btreet. » ; ,' The opinion expressed bytltaicitor was read.
