(per press agency.) AUCKLAND. Thursday. The lightning struck the house of H. Faulkner, at Otumatai. Mrs Faulkner and her three children wero sitting in the kitchen by the fire, when the • lightning struck the chimney, travelling into the kitchen, splitting the woodwork of the mantel-piece, and dashing the four persons who were sitting near the fire to the ground. A portion of the electric fluid struck the hearthstone, smashing two bricks, and then made its escape to the earth. The husband ran into the kitchen and found his wife and children senseless on the floor. The apartment was full of smoke of a sulphurous odour. All gradually recovered, however, though the youngest girl, who was leaning on the mantel-shelf, was most injured, She remained unconscious for thirty-six hours, and is much burnt.
