The ordinary monthly meeting of the House Committee of the Mastorton Hospital was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs D. McGregor (chairman), Perry, Moore, Dennett, and Payton. The minutes of the previous meeting wen; read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a balance in hand of £l2l 9s 3d. Applications for the post of master and matron to the hospital were received from Messrs Smart, Wybom, Bulpit, Mackay T.Miller, A. P. Cox, Christiansen.,Taco'bsen, and C, B. Moore. Mr and Mrs Bulpit, formerly custodian of the hospital at Greytown, were elected. The following correspondence was read: Prom T. W. Shute respecting a collection which had been made for the hospital; from Colonial Secretary re subsidy; from County West re subsidy; from County East re an application for clmritahle aid ; from Dr Husking, offering to i/ive his honorarium towards the purchase ot surgical instruments for the use of the hospital ; from J, M, Girdlestone, apolngiain" for inability to attend meeting." The Secretary was instructed to acknowledge the receipt of Mr Shute's letter. It was resolved that the House Committee was not as yet prepared to deal with claims for charitable aid. A vote of thanks was passed to Dr Hosking for his donation of £2O towards the purchase of surgical instruments. Mr Moore reported that the contractor had completed the drain to the hospital, ana on his recommendation the contract price was increased by £O, as unforseen difficulties had been experienced in executing the work It was also resolved that tenders for extending the drain further be invited. The ce-emony of laying the foundation stone of the new Wesleyan Church, Greytown, was a great success, there being a very large number present. After partaking of a most excellent lunch provided at the Foresters' Hall, the Oreytowu Private Brass Band p'ayed on the site of the new building, where, after the secretary, Mr Hush, had read the document which was to be deposited in the stone, the (•ereniniiy was pet formed by the Rev Mr lurk, assisted by the Revs Hincou and Thomas. After the ceremony they adjourned to Mr O'Connor's paddock, headed by 'he band, who played some excellent music during the evening ■Spirts of all kinds were organized, such as Tug of War, Crjcket, Rounders, Races, iv;t forgetting the long-famed Kias-in-the-Riix.'j which was kept up till a late hour. The usual meeting of the Featherstnn Library Committee was held in the schoolroom mi the evening of the 10th. Present : Messrs Cox, Fry, Gurr, Donald, licyiolds, Keys, and Cundy. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and continued. An account' of 12s 3d to the N T . Z. Times was passed. The Librarian reported io additional subscribers durina 'ho past month, and subscriptions paid in £-'> 16s. Mr Carter presented two volumes of his book, " Round the World Leisurely," and also offered 21s per annum to the funds. It was resolved that Mr Carter's suggestion to lay out £lO in bonks at the coming sale in tk Library at Melbourne be acted on, and the amount forwarded to him for outlay. The thanks of the Committee were unanimously tendered for his subscription and books, A long discussion took place as to the interpretation of the words cnntrihutioiis.mtes, and subscriptions in the Act, and it was resolved to </ ft t further advice on the subject. Mr Donald proposed, and Mr Cox seconded, that non-ratepayers to the Library shall, on miking up their contributions t» 5s per annum, be allowed to bake out one book at the time, to 10s two hooks.
