FEATHERSTON.

[prom our own correspondent], Oct. 15. TbE Bank of Australasia took over their new premises on Saturday last, and they certainly present a very nice appearance. Mr Oobliam has worked up a goo'l and increasini' business for the b',mk, and his genial spirit has won for himself the respect of the community, so that the prospects of the bank are bright. I understand that the bank is not to be thoroughly furnished until November, when we may expect a house-warming, Several parties have to-day passed through Featherston to prospect in the Rimutaka. Since writing my last, information has come to hand respecting the reefs, which makes some of us change our minds and think it will be belter that the district should at once be declared a »oldfield, aud then the range will be thoroughly |

explored, My own opinion is that the chance of success is a good one. Already there is a tunnel in the reef some fifty feet from the hill side; we then come to a shaft twenty-five feet deep. Some twelve feet down this there is a drive running at right angles to the main tunnel for about ten feet, and through the whole the quartz is not lost sight of. The reef may also be . traced over several ridges to the south of the tunnel, so we may expect plenty of .m stone, and its value has already been ,fi satisfactorily tested. Another advantage ! r is a fair road to within one mile of the tunnel. ~ „ Host Faber is once more in bj temporary premises, until his m- l-MMi is erected. Whether four hotels\fP*required for our village, I leave to others ! to decide, but it seems to me that the three ive already have, together with the refreshment room at the station, are equal to our wants, and such a favorite as Mr Faber would do well in any one of them, I if it could be so managed.
