MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Ti>E usual fortnightly meeting of the above took place in the Council Chambers last evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Renall, Gray, Rnss-«H, Vile McCardle, Gapper, Feist, WoodrooTe, and Bish. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence. - Outwakds. To parties causing nuisance by allowing hedges to grow over footpath; one to auditors re auditing balance sheet. Inwards.
From Mrs Ewington re nuisance ; from W. Gillespie re drain; from MarUm Borough Council re loan; from Treasury re fees, etc. ; from E, Laucely re encroachment on his land by the contractor at the south end of Chapel-street; from D. Convoy in reference to a fence across road to his property.
The matter mentioned in W. Gillespie's letter and the application of E. Laucely were referred to the Works Comm ttee. The application of D. Conroy was ordered to stand over until the Council had settled the matter of public and private streets.
The Finance Committee. recommended several accounts for payment. An application from M. Caselberg and others asiung that a fire inspector bo appointed for the Borough, and recommending Mr J. Muirto the appointment, was read.
Cr McCardle thought it was advisable to have two instead of one, and would point out that should any law matter occur at any time the Council would have to pay the piper. After considerable discussion on the matter, Messrs Muir and Gapper weie appointed fire inspectors. The Council then went into Committee to consider tenders for work at Kuripimi for which the following tenders were received :
For three box culverts-Hoar & Sinclair, Ll2 (accepted); W. Cullen, L 18; b. Hounslow, LIS. Section No 1-M. Dowhng, L4l7s per chain ; EVden & Mah.mey, L2 8s; Hounslow, L2 2s; Pike L2 ss; Laucely, Li 15s; Oliver, L 3 &' Section No 2—D-wliug Li 8s; Fo-'den & C0.,L2 10j; Pike, £2 ss; Lankly, Ll los; Uhvur, L 3 2s. Section No 3Uowling,L4 8s; Fogden & Co. L2 10a ■ Laucely, Ll 15s; Oliver, L 3 2s. Section' No 4 D..wling,L4 Bjj Fogden & Co, £2; Laucely, Ll 15s; Oliver. L2lss. The tender of Mr Laucely at Ll 15s per chain for the four contracts was accepted after considerable discussion, '
A list of streets laid oil' at the time of till) Borough's formation, and a list of private streets laid oll'siuce that time, was read.
Alter (lie mutter had been fully discussed by all present, it was resolved that the subject stand over till tlio next sitting.
It was resolved that the balance sl.eel be published.
On tho subject of the Waipoua river encroachments, Or Russell „aid he was the «nly one who attended to make a report on the subject. Councillor dapper read an estimate of the cost of improvements required to the immigrant cottages, The question of calling for tenders for repairs to the cottages was adjourned till next meeting. Councillor Gapper's motion re plan of the Borough was also held over till next meeting. The Council then adjourned,
