FIRE BRIGADE MEETING AT GREYTOWN.

There was a very large' attendance at the meeting culled to take ititocoiisideralimi the funning of a Fire Brigade or Hook and Ladder Company. Mr Loasby suggested that the subject stand over, and a deputation wait on the resident surgeons, askiug them if they would be honorary surgeons to the Brigade. The election of officers was then proceeded with. Mr Loasby proposed, Mr Lewis seco'nded, that Mr Baillie be Captain. MrR. A. Wakelin proposed, and Mr Humphries seconded, that Mr Cuff be Captain. MrFenton proposed, Mr McGuire sa-. conded, that Mr Salmon be CaptaijHggf The result of the first ballot was-ojf. 16, Baillie 10, Salmon 9. The issue then' remained between Messrs Cuff and Baillie, and resulted as follows—Cuff 19 Baillie, 10. Mr Cuff was declared duly elected. The following gentlemen were proposed as Lieutenant :-Messrs Salmon, Bock, McGuire, and R. A. Wakelin. In the first ballot Mr Wakelin was crossed off; in the second Mr Bock got 11, Mr Salmon 12, Mr McGuire 15. The contest then remained between Messrs Salmon and McGuire, but Mr Salmon was sure they could not do better than elect Mr McGuire, and resigned the contest in his favor.

Mr Bock also complimented the company on having elected such a good officer. Messrs Cole and Avery were proposed •is Foreman, when Mr Avery was duly elected by 20 votes to 10. Mr Bock was unanimously elected as Secretary and Treasurer. following Committee were elected: M e ssrs Salmon, Baillie, Loasby, Haigh, !in d Bishop, A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the business.
