WOODSIDE.
(FltOM OL K OWN COiIUESPONDENT.) ■ _ Sept. 22. The weather this month has l:een so very dry that the grass and herbage appeared quite parched; until yesterday there seemed a decided change, and about four o'clock in the afternoon it commenced raining, which has made the vegetation look far more healthy. Yesterday morning divine service was held for the first time at Mr Revans' saw mill, by the Rev Father Halbwachs, of the Roman Catholic denomination, and in the afternoon by some of the members in connection with the Young Men's Christian Association of Greytown. 1 m both occasions there wern gojd attendances. This is a step in the right directi'in, as at present there is a considerable population here and not a place of worship nearer than Greytown, and the crossing of the river is a great obstruction to those who wish to attend divine service. Owing to such a continuance of dry weather lately, there has been a decided improvement m the progress made on the railway works, and the embankment which is being made across the flat towards the cylinder bridge will be the longest between Wellington and Masterton, Should the weather be favorable there is every pro!pecfc of it being finished in about two or three months. The cylinder bridge across the Tauherenikau river is nearly finished, so as to allow the forwarding of railway material, which will be a great assistance in forwarding the progress of the railway. The energetic manner in which the works are now being proceeded with gives great credit to those in connection with the same.
