MASTERTON FIRE BRIGADE.

To the Editor of the Wairarapa Daily. Masterton, September 23Hn Sir—On behalf of the above I b|gra thank your correspondent W. 0. M.ToT his suggestions which appeared in your issue to-day, but beg to assure him that he is a day behind the fair. If W. 0. M. had read the yearly report of the brigade which appeared in your columns a few days ago lie would have seen that all he suggests lias been dealt with by the brigade, not quite in the manner recommended by him, but quite in a manner warranted by the funds of the brigade. Lest \Y. 0. M. has not seen the report, I will detail, again the steps already taken: A part of the Church acre next the Council Chambers has been leased at a rental of five shillings per annum, on which to erect a hell-tower. A plan of the structure has been prepared and given to the brigade' by Mr James Russell, the timber is, I believe, now being cut by Messrs McGregor, Bros., and is also a gift from those gentlemen, • and the building will be put up by the voluntary labor of the members of the brigade.

With regard to an engine-shed, a quantity of limber has been promised by many gentlemen of the district, and partial arrangements have been made for a suitable site, which I have no doubt can be obtained whenever the Brigade is in a position to go on with the building. In conclusion, sir. let me say that if '' W. 0. M.'" is really anxious to assist the Brigade thero is a very ready means spen for him to do m. I shall be at all times ready to meet him and receive a subscription from him, and will acknowledge the same through the medium of your valuable journal, and at the same time give him any information he may require as to the affairs of the Brigade.— lam, (fee, W. M. Easthope, Hon, Sec.
