PAST SERVICES AND VOLUNTEER LAND SCRIPS.

(To tk Editor of tk Wairaiupa Daily. ) Sib, —At every election for many yean pait, support has been claimed for Mr Bunny for "past seryices," and for hii efforts to obtain land scrip for Volunteers. Those past services must' haro boen over-rated, for it lias been proved over and over again that this district has never had anything liko its fair share of public expenditure in proportion to the land revenue abstracted from it, and for the roads and bridges that have been made, Mr Andrew deserves a share of the credit, Withregard to tlieland scrip, which the V olunteers obtainedfor tho meritorious service of taking up arms in defenco cf their homes, it seems that Mr Renall is almost as much entitled to the credit as Mr Bunny. These continual claims for past services are monotonous. I trust we shall hear less of them, especially as they have been pretty well paid for by salaries, honorariums etc. But are the public services of Messrs Beetham and Pliarazyu, each as Chairman of their respective Councils to be en- j tirely ignored? These gentleman have given much of their time, and must have incurred considerable expense out of pocket in travelling after the affairs of their districts. But these genltemen do not get neither salary nor honorarium, We should therefore, if possible, reward them with political support. Of the four candidates they have the most local knowledge, and the much-wanted small farm settlements will be obtained soonest through their joint action, Moreover, from the views which they have expressed the district would have in them two industrious members capable of giving an intelligent vote on colonial as well as local questions, Fellow-electors, in conclusion I would say; Beetham and Pharazyn for ever! - I am, &c,, Another Ex-Volunteer,
