THE MAORI DUAL VOTE.
(From the Ohristchurch Press.) An Elector—Are you in favor of the Natives having two votes 1 Sir George-1 will answer you this: that I was allowed to diaw up and recommend a constitution for New Zealand, I had the power, if I pleased, to write a double vote for the Natives; but I did not do it, lam against a double vote to the Natives, (cries of " Oh,"" laughter and cheers.) Let me say this; I think it is putting the Natives in a unfair position, became the Natives are more easily tampered with than Europeans, I never proposed to give the Natives double votes. In the Electoral Bill sent up to the Legislative Council, there was a provision that Natives should have the same votes and rights as the Europeans. The Council, however/would not meet the Government. I thought the Council had no right to interfere with our franchise—that they should, in fact, not dictate to the people how their franchise should run,
