Gentlemen— In view of the dissolution of Parliament, I have respectfully to intimate that it is my intention to seek re-election for the district which Ilmyc represented for so many years. It is my intention to hold meetings at the several centres of population, when I shall general interest fully before you. In the meantime I may state that I intend to give a hearty support to the programme of the Liberal party, including the repeal of the Land Tax, the imposition of a Property and Income Tax, the reduction of the taxation on the necessaries of life, liberal Land Laws, Triennial Parliament;, the vigorous prosecution of Public Works, and "other Liberal measures which were indicated in the Governor's speech at the opening of Parliament. I have the honor to bo, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, HENRY BUNNY. WAIEAIiAPA." A Government which has been declared by an overwhelming majority in Parliament to be guilty of tlr "eromtmaladministmtion" has appealed to the people agatest this vcrflick In my opinion, it ouchi to be horougdy endorsed by a refusal to rc-eleot Uiose who voted on the Government side Hie two members for this district on this is on nearly all previous occasions gave apposite votes, therefore,' if there is any. ung ike political consistency, it isimpossib'le that both can airain jointly represent yon. Uns Jeing [he case, I offer yon in v services, ind, if elected, I shall do my best to assist .o pace, and support in office, a Ministry which, instead of being content with enunciation of great principles, and maknu' reckless promises, will give practical effect to the measures, winch, in my opinion, ought at mce to bo adopted, in order to avert both a iNativo War, and a serious financial eatas;rophe, I altogether deny the right of the present Ministry to monopolise the name of '•Libe■'■lis." It seems to me absurd to say that we mist submit to their maladministration, jccauso their principles are right, when there s nothing to prevent our securing the advantages of the latter, without the evils of the ormcr, These principles are held by most Junking men in the colony as it has been ong seen that the progress of events has irepared the way for' their adoption, and levefore I am quite prepared to support in ;lio mam, the measures indicated in the .overnor' speech, but they must he given if cct to by more competent men than those vho have so muddled the Land Tax, that ifter the enormous expense already incurred n attempting to collect it, there is every ■eason to believe that it will have to be abaiiloned, and an Income and Property Tax iiibsfituted, The urgent wants of ihc country are, in my •pinioni, retrenchment, a satisfactory solution if the Native difficulty, with a view to the ■peedy occupation of lands now so unprofifly held by them. Settlement on .rown lands of the large proportion « our population, now dependent sole- }' on public expenditure, Encourageuent of the immigration of persons with iulheient capital to settle on land, and of lapilal in any way which will tend to -'evoop the resources of the colony. Concurrently ■vith ftis some better provision must be mule than mere local rating for connecting :ie outlying districts with the railway lines mil for the formation and maintenance of •oads through unsettled districts, and the counties instead of being expected as at prosent to ;• make bricks without straw" must be ) aced in a position to fulfil the oHieations ;lirown on them. In conclusion I will only say that] have row been long enough before you in various le you to form an opinion nnnlifiiwl f«„ t-i,„i i.i. ~. , ~, 'i " ,VAi "" wiunonoraoie position in which I ask you to place me. I wwj. uuxw! wm recognise the importance of tnc contest, andwill not therefore lail to record Ins vote.
