CAUTION!

To the Editor of the Wairaiupa Daily Greytown, August 23. Sm—lt appears to me that the electors of the Wairarapa have a singular view of political justice, and that it' is the outcome of the Provincial or parish mind, and does not belong to tho more enlarged Colonial mind. It is the mode in which they propose to show their gratitude to an old member for services he is supposed to have rendered the Wairarapa Valley. As those services are local they should be locally dealt with by a testimonial, and should not risk involving the Colony in the possible keeping in of a Ministry they would otherwise aid in turning out. That this may take place by giving a single vote to the wrong party has been'proved in tho Wairarapa. Some years ago the two candidates for the House of Representatives, had equal numbers of votes and the election was decided by the casting vote of the Returning Officer. Tho issue of this was, if I remember rightly, that the Ministry was turned by a majority of one, so that the casting vote of the Returning Officer decided the policy of the Colony for some time afterwards. Thus in supporting the old member for local services we may, injure thousands of Colonial people to the extent of thousands of pounds, and the political mind to an enormous extent.—l am, &c, Samuel Revans.
