TINUI

(FHOM OUR OWJf COEEESPONDENT.) August 13th, 1879. Things are dull in the extreme and do not seem to improvo, onejconsolation is that the weather at times is milder than it wasj and the feed no doubt on the increase, this is cheering, bat until the roads improve locomotion is out of the question, The Tinui bridge is now finished and a good job has been made of it; so now we may expect a little dray traffic, for stores are running short.

The Rev. Mr Gossett paid us a visit last Sunday, and read divine service in the afternoon to a fair congregation, this gentleman|deserves great credit in attempting the journey considering the state of the roads. Political meetings are talked about in event of thejcoraing men. Now is the crisis when persons who having neglected to register are deprived of voting, this is a matter that should not be,lost sight of; this I believe is provided for in last Election Bill. There is one thing which it will be well to consider in the distribution of votes next month.

The Wairarapa has its railway and good main road, whilst the outlying districts are without anything worth calling a road in the winter. What this district wants is a good metalled plain road from Masterton to Castlepoint. The man that will endeavor to push this matter to the best interests of the settlers, not forgetting a Liberal policy, will be a friend indeed. There was an unusual heavy sea from the north-east running at Castlepoint lately without any wind, No doubt this is the forerunner of further bad weather, but really I hope it will be otherwise, and that we shall soon welcome Spring, and be enabled to travel with some ease. ;> The health of the district appears to be fair. There are a few complaining of colds and coughs, but I do not think anything serious It has commenced raining again in earnest.
