THE WAIRARAPA ELECTION.

(From the Chronicle) Taking time by the forelock, aspirants to represent the Wairarapa district in the new Parliament have of late been busily soliciting " the sweet voices" of the people there. Mr Bunny and Mr Beetham, the sitting members, have both been out amongst the electors; Mr Charles Pharazyn is once more angling for senatorial honors, while the genial Mr Burton Boys is about to start on a canvass. The politics of most of those gentlemen are rather of an imcortaiu character, aed we can hardly tell their lines until their addresses are out. There is another candidate likely to lw brought forward, .in thfi r o ™<m of Mr Charles Booking Carter, who lias just arrived from England. Should Mr Carter adopt Liberal principles lie will have a most cordial support. He is an old colonist and Wairarapa resident, while he posesm a considerable stake in that district.

Moreover, Mr Carter is an able man, well read and possessed -of that knowledge which comes of travel and a familiarity with men and good manners. Added to this lie is an honourable, honest and straght forward man, wha would do credit to any district which lie repressed in Parliament, in which, by the way, ho has satibefore for a Wellington constituency, By the way we notice that Mr Bunny is coming forwardaa apronouncedGreyite. Mr Bunny is an adept at changing his coat. He is I everything by turn and nothing long. Not long ago Mr Bunny denounced the policy of the Government as being of a "tinpot" character—whatever that may mean. However. Mr. Bunny has now discovered beauties in " tho tinpot policy which, were previously invisible to his eyes Perhaps there is another fat commissionership in view. If there is we hope Mr Bunny will not be such a confounded fool as he was before in shilly-shallying till tiie prize escaped his grasp.
