CARTERTON.
[from our own corresponeent] August la, 1879. It is with sincere regret 1 have to record the somewhat serious illness of Mr W. Booth, sen. This gentleman if not the father was at any rato one of the pioneers of the saw milling business which has tended so much to our prosperity and the advancement of the district and his kindly honest disposition has far and wide gained him the goodwill of the community.
As misfortunes seldom occur single, so am I sorry to tell you of a somewhat severe accident met with by Mr W. Booth jun. on Wednesday while'riding between here and Masterton, his stirrup-leather broke and frightened the horse who commenced bucking and shying, and the rider was thrown heavily foremost on the pummel of the saddle, and has been confined to his bed over since. lam happy to say, however, that the sufferer is much better this morning,
One of Mr T. Bennett's sons a few days ago also met with a nasty fall through the stumbling of the horse he was riding. The Quadrille class met in the Public Hall, on Wednesday evening, with a very good attendance.
