It is reported on good authority that Sir George Grey has expressed himself in favor of, amongst other reforms, the system obtaining in America by which Civil seruants are changed with every change of Government. When the Maori prisoners were committed co-day, Bullor applied for bail to be allowed. The Magistrate fixed it at £IOOO and two sureties each £SOO. Buller contended against such excessive bail, but the Magistrate said for Europeans placed in the same position he would not have demanded more than £SO each. He looked at Maoris in a different light to Europeans.
