MASTERTON CEMETERY.

——o To the Editor of the "Waikaiupa jjaily. Sir,—ln your last issue you favored your readers with a report of the meeting of the Mastorton Cemetery Trustees. It appears by the minutes, that there is some difficulty m collecting the fees from the friends of deceased persons, who have taken up ground for burial enclosures. I observe that the friends of the late Mr Stedman appear to be impervious to the attacks of the Collector of Cemetery rates. I believe the remains of the deceased gentleman were brought from Carterton to Mastsvton at the express wishes of the Masonic body of which he was a member. No doubt it was the respect and lovo they bore towards the deceased, that prompted the desire to have a dear brother near them, and it is to be devoutly hoped when next a brother goes to shed a silent tear over the remains, the question will come before him in a prominent way, has the ground been paid for yet?" There are others too, I am informed, who have interred departed ones, and whohavo erected fences and taken possession of enclosures withent any authority whatever, and if these parties would take the trouble to look at the Cemetery board at the entrance gate, with the scale of fees written thereon, they would learn how much they were indebted to the trustees, but I suppose this was too much trouble 1 would strongly advise them, that, in order to undone their offence of trespass, they pay their respective amounts as soon as possible, or, I am told, they will have to appear before tho Resident Magistrate before long. Allow me through th e columns of your valuable paper, to give, for the information of parties who have taken ground for burial purpoes, and who still neglect to pay for it, an extract from the Cemeteries Act which is as follows:-" When any monument, tablet, or other erection has been erected or built, contrary to the terms and conditions upon which permisaion to erect or construct the same was granted, or in case such terms and conditions as well as the regulations of the Cemetery have not been complied with, the Irustess may take down and remove such monument, tablet, or other erection." I am etc., „,„,„, Observer.
