A GOOD STORY.
The following good story is told by tin Wellington Chronicle:— A man wa: standing at the corner of Manners and On ba-streete yesterday, denouncing adverti sing to a crowd of listeners. "Last week,' said he, " I had an umbrella stole from the vestibule of the church. It was; gift, and valuing it very highly, I spen double its worthjin advertising, but hav< not recovered it." " How did you won your advertisement!" asked a merchant '' Here it is," said the man producing I slip from a newspaper. The merchant tool! it and read : " Lost—from the vestibulj of the church last Sabbath evening ablack silk umbrella, Tho gentleman win took it will be handsomely rewarded b; leaving it at Mr 's." "Mr K said the merchant, " I am a liberal ad vertiser, and have always found that it pai< ine well. A great deal depends upon tin manner in which an advertisement i put. Let us try for your umbrella again and if you do not acknowledge then tha advertising pays, I will purchase you a nev one." The merchant then took a slip o paper from his pocket and wrote: "If th man who was seen to take an umbrell; from the vestibule of the—church las Sabbath evening does not wisli to get intc trouble and have a stain cast upon th( Christian character he values so highl; he will return it to Mr , He is wel" known." This duly appeared in the paper, and the following morning the man was astonished when he opened tin front door of his residence. On the porcl lay at least a dozen umbrellas of all shape; and sizes, that had been thrown in fron the side walk, 'while the front yard w laterally paved with umbrellas. Many o them had notes attached to them sayin< they had been taken by mistake, and begging the loser to keep the little affaii quiet.
