MASTERTON HOSPITAL.

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the General Committee was held at the Institute, yesterday. Present Messrs D. McGregor'(Chairman), Girdlestone, lorns, Payton, and Perry, A report and balance sheet from the House Committee were received and adopted. The balance sheet was ordered to be published. ANNUAL MEETING. Mr D. McGregor was appointed Chairman of the'meeting'on the motion of Mr ■J.'i Brown, seconded by Mr Caselborg. There was but a thin attendance of members. The report and balance sheet for ■ the past year were received and-adopted. The following was the report : The House Committee of the Masterton Hospital have to report that subsequent to their election, the building has been completed aud furnished as far as the funds at their disposal permitted. An ex- '. perienced matron, Miss Lyons, was engaged to take charge of the establishment, and the Committee have every reason to be satisfied with the manner in which the duties of her office have been discharged, Since the Hospital was opened for the reception of-patients, nine persons have been admitted. Of this number, one died from heart disease, four were discharged as cured, and the. remaining four are still under tho treatment of Dr Hoslring, the } medical officer of'the hospital. The Committee has endeavored, as far as possible to make the premises healthy and comfortable by laying down drain pipes, fencing in a garden and other improvements, '

Annexed is the 'Treasurer's balance sheet for the past year, Some of the earlier records of receipts and expenditure were destroyed by the fire which occurred on the premises of the late Treasurer, Mr R. 6. Williams, a year ago, but all the particulars obtainable are given in the annexed report. The diflicnlties of successfully initiating a new'inetitution which'involved a heavy outlay have been' somewhat arduous, but the Committee thanks to the assistance it has received from both town and country subscribers, has been able to bring the finances of the Hospital into a satisfactory state. Tnere is a balance in hand of £2l 3s Id, and subsidies due estimated to amount to £l5O while outstanding liabilities are only about £IOO. The.Committee has also been able to make such arrangements for the permanent conduct of the establishment as will render the work of conducting it in the future more easy than has been the case in the past. The Committee has specially ;to thank several station proprietors for the interest they have displayed in the institution by inducing their employees to become subscribers to it. The contributions of old linen, &c., from many ladies in the' neighborhood have been extremely useful and the Committee trusts that the laides of the district will continue 'their aid to the Hospital, assuring them that personal visits to the Institution will be always welcomed by the matron, the patients, and. the Coinniitteo.

A GeneraLCommittee for the ensuing year was elected, consisting of Messrs Girdlestone, lorns, Perry, E. Brown, Gapper, Vile, R, G. Williams, and J. V. Smith. Mr Oaselberg declined to serve on the Committee on the ground that he was dissatisfied with the decision of the late Committee with respect to the application of the hospital at Greytown in the case of Mrs Robertson. Mr Payton was re-elected Hon. Treasurer, and Messrs R, Wilsone and J. Brown auditors, Messrs D, McGregor, J, Bennett, and M, Oaselberg were elected as trustees of the Hospital property. The meeting concluded witli the usual Tote of thanks to the Chairman, The General Committee met afterwards and appointed Messrs lorns, Girdlestone, J. V. Smith, Vile, Payton, McGregor, Bennett and Perry as a house Committee for the ensuing year,
