Henry Anderson, editor of the Chronicle, was arrested last night for violently assaulting Easby, blind maker, but found bail. The occurrence took place at the residence of Easby, who was considerably bruised. A. Phillips's house was destroyed by fire at Kaiapoi this morning. The house was insured for £l5O in the Imperial and Now Zealand offices. The furniture was insured in the National, but the policy had lapsed on the Ist. The house was unoccupied at the time,

Great doubt is felt as to the real meaning of Kewi's speech, Some think he must adhere to the.King, but desires to make arrangements for securing lands. Tawhiao has not yet shaken hands with Grey, hut he is expected to do so tomorrow. It is reported that Tawhiao will ask for a £I,OOO a year for himself, and £SOO each for To Ngakau and Wahaiiui; also, tlio restoration of a large arc-a of confiscated lands.
