The following resolutions were then passed That Mr Chamberlain be requested to attend to the application of Mr Harris for a line of road and a cutting. That before accepting Mr T. Brown's tender for falling bush at Kaumingi, Mr Bonnettbe requested to wait on Mr Yallance and ascertain if it his. intention to fall any bush adjoining the deviation, That Mr Palmer's application for a road be referred to Mr Bremner.

That Mr Gossett be informed that the road along the Terrace, referred to in his application laid before the Board by him, will be proclaimed so soon as the necessary survey is completed. That M. McKenzie send a man to assist J. O'Conuor to make certain repairs on the Taueru road and bridges, That Mr Minchin be authorised to expend £2 on grass seed to sow the track near Messrs Rutherford's station; and also a sum not exceeding £l3 on repairs on the same line of road.

That the Secretary write to Mr Percy, Te Ore Ore, and request him to keep his cattle and pigs from straying on the main road, and inform him that should he fail .to do so, proceedings would be taken against him under "the Public Works Act.

That John Morrison's tender for cutting bridle track near Mr Hood's station be accepted.

That this Board cannot, from a public point of view, recommend the formation of the proposed new Highway District of the Lower Whareama, Tho percentage of expenses connected with sufficiently disbursing its income would be much larger than at present, and the boundaries as at present proposed would include properties where traffic would pass directly over tho boundary into the Highway District (Kaumingi, for instance.) This Board cannot admit the correctness of tho plea put forward 011 the petition, that the ratepayers could see no prospect of the expenditure of a fair proportion of their rates within the district. Their applications were put before the Board after all the funds for the year were pledged. Under any circumstances the balance due to them can be handed over within six or eight months. The Masterton Highway Board has arrived at this resolution notwithstanding the knowledge that the secession of that part would (owing to its distance from Masterton) save it from a considerable amount of expenso in the way of supervision and engineering. It may have escaped the notice of the ratepayers in question that surveys in that district have recently cost over £4OO, • which has not been charged to that district, but put down as general expenditure. ■ PAYMENTS.
