TINUI.

(KltOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Tinui, April 8,1879. ■ Tho County Council met on Saturday evening, and I believe wisely decided in approving, of Mr King's line re Black Hill. The decision of adopting this road in preference to the Lower Whareama one was anxiously looked for, while there were not a few who looked upon Mr King's wonderful curves in getting an easy grade as absurd, and I have reason to believe that this indefatigable engineer

has been subject to'great annoyance consequent upon his being faithful to his trust, However, I think all will in time | acknowledge that this gentleman luis been a friend to the .district, Tenders, I see, are now called for two miles of this road, •so that there is every prospect of getting a good through road to Masterton by next Spring. * , We had quite a selection in the way of religious Services on Sunday, and I very much doubt if such unprejudiced feelings prevails iti many parts of the Colony, • In ' the morning the Rev, Father Halbwachs held Mass from 10 to 11 a.m, ; the 'Rev, J. McKee came next, 11 till 12.39 p.m. ; then in the afternoon we ■ had the usual fortnightly Service, the Rev. Mr Gosset officiating. I hear the morning congregations were not large, but there was a better attendance in • the afternoon, So you will conclude that w& have had quito a feast in this respect, and all in the same building, our veritable Public Hall, The Tacing fraternity are still very busy making preparations for the coming event, which takes place next Monday and Tuesday. There are several racehorses already here. I notice Maori Weed and Express among the number. I believe the course is in splendid order. Burslem's break came to grief when nearing port on Sunday evening, breaking the pole and damaging some of the goods which comprised his loading. The accident was speedily repaired, and his stage continued. The lady who was reported as our. future school matron has not yet arrived, consequently the school is closed, and it is holiday time. No doubt this delay is | owing to some bungling somewhere. Mr Telford and family arrived to-night, and drove straight for their new residence, which I belive is very pleasantly situated | about two miles out of Tinui. The weather is still very dry, and rather cold morning and evening. The roads are in splendid order for the season.
